Despite complex needs, many interventions intended to reduce fracture risk are not used consistently in Long-Term Care (LTC) and clinical practice guidelines for osteoporosis have focused on the care of adults living in the community.
Join us on July 19, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00pm for an @OntarioCollege workshop on pharmacological and non-pharmacological fracture prevention recommendations for frail older adults in LTC. Click to register today!
Long-term care (LTC) residents are more dependent, frail and vulnerable, and require more complex care than community-dwelling older adults. Yet many interventions intended to reduce fracture risk are not used consistently in LTC, and clinical practice guidelines for osteoporosis have focused on the care of adults living in the community. This program aims to address existing care gaps by illustrating the application of pharmacological and non-pharmacological fracture prevention recommendations with frail older adults in LTC. After active engagement in this program, participants will be better able to:
- Assess fracture risk using Fracture Risk Scale
- Apply evidence-based recommendations for fracture prevention in LTC
- Recognize challenges and barriers to implement the recommendations and use enablers
