GERAS DANcing for Cognition and Exercise (DANCE) is an evidence-based program that improves the brain health and mobility of older adults. In this course, learning will happen by watching high-quality videos featuring top geriatric medicine and rehabilitation experts and applying new concepts through interactive case studies. Bringing it all together, instructors will engage in an interactive workshop with YMCA Canada Certified Trainers to learn the fundamental principles of group dynamics and program delivery. All instructors will be required to pass a final evaluation to ensure core competencies are met.

iGeriCare is home to interactive e-learning lessons that cover the essentials of dementia. Starting with introductory topics such as ‘What is Dementia’ and looking at important topics related to the treatment, safety, care of the dementia patient, challenging behaviours and caregiver wellness. Geriatric Certificate Program

The Geriatric Certificate Program (GCP) was developed and launched by the Regional Geriatric Program Central (RGPc) in 2013. The program is comprised of educational courses aimed at improving quality of care for the aging population, thereby enhancing the quality of life for older adults. The courses are offered through well-known organizations with a record of outstanding evaluations and a well-developed curriculum that clearly links knowledge to practice. The planning and development of the GCP has been reviewed and endorsed by the McMaster Continuing Health Sciences Education Office. The courses are offered Canada-Wide, as well as through online platforms, which allows GCP to reach students across the globe.

The Cognitive Assessment Tools Workshop is reviewed and endorsed by McMaster University and offered by the Regional Geriatric Program central. This workshop focuses on the scientific and practical considerations of using and interpreting cognitive assessments. The Hamilton Council on Aging (HCoA) is a non-profit charitable organization that was founded in 2005. Their mission is to advance positive aging — promoting the health, well-being and social participation of ALL older adults — by influencing attitudes, policies and programs to include their voices.
